I'm Nicolás Aranda.
I live in Mexico, where I build the internet.
For as long as I can remember, I've always liked technology. I remember taking apart and reassembling computers since I was 8 years old. A couple of years later, I stopped having leftover screws when putting them back together.
I studied Physics at the University of Guanajuato where I learned to program "crunching numbers" and to do data analysis, mathematical modeling, and simulations. Halfway through my degree, I started learning about web development and went from "crunching numbers" to "crushing bugs", some of which, surely, I was the creator.
Occasionally, I consider the idea of going back and finishing my physics degree.
In 2019, I had the opportunity to design and develop the software system for the Early Warning and Response System [SART] for the Ministry of Human Rights of the Republic of Honduras.
I currently work as software director at the Laboratory of Journalism and Public Opinion in Mexico. There, I've been in charge of designing and developing the lab's software systems, as well as creating tools for data analysis.
As part of the lab team, I've won the national journalism award twice (2021 and 2022) as well as the international FETISOV award in 2021.
